According to reports, by Fox News, that despite a Chicago prosecutor dropping all charges against Jussie Smollett, a Cook County state’s Attorney Kim Foxx says she wants to look into the investigation further.
Smollett is also being charged with almost $130,000 to cover the cost of the investigation that appeared to be fraudulent due by Tuesday and if not paid on time he is looking to be fined twice the amount of what he is being charged. The Empire, actor reported that he was the victim of an alleged hate crime. But it was later found out to be false. Team Dark Skin. Team Light Skin, Team Brown Skin. What team you rocking with?
Are we serious? It’s 2019 and are we still having these Willie Lynch, Paper Bag test problems?
With the premiere of the 8th season of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta we see Spice (Jamaican based rapper) sitting in a dermatologist office requesting to bleach her dark skin. This doctor advises her how it is dangerous to attempt skin bleaching and that a psychological evaluation may have to be done before any doctor can perform the operation. This leads to Spice’s explosive response.
After being told that she may need to change her look by a music promoter, Spice takes an unexpected turn to prove that African American dark skin women have it harder to succeed in the music business than other women. Leading her to supposedly, appear as if she’s bleached her skin. But as Mimi, Karlie and Rasheeda later find out at her music video set; it was just makeup.
As silly as the scene looks, it’s just as silly that in real life thousands of women do these horrendous acts on themselves to feel more accepted in society. This is not a new age phenomenon, rapper Lil Kim bleached her skin some years ago. Stating how she felt her dark brown skin was repulsive to men. Saying, she struggled with finding love. As she watched Biggie choose Faith over her, along with several failed relationships thereafter even dealing with her own father’s treatment towards her.
It’s not as much as a problem of being accepted in society. But accepting ourselves. We must learn to truly love our big lips, thighs and hips. Whatever your body skin tone and type. We have been conditioned to hate ourselves and love the white man’s standard of beauty. We are not defined by anyone’s standard but our own.
“F-’em then I get some money!”
Or in this case, ‘Drug ’em then I get some money.’
New York born rapper Cardi B recently went on her IG live to address those stating how she didn’t deserve her fame. Cardi B replied back in the live rant by saying she had to resort to doing what she had to do. The ‘Money,’ emcee admits to bringing men who wanted to engage in sex with her to hotels. There she would drug them and rob them while they were unconscious to pay for her studio time and producers.
Many have taken to social media with memes comparing her to Bill Cosby. The famed comedian actor, best known on the hit TV show, The Cosby Show. He was found guilty of drugging women and he has since been in jail. But why is there no jail time for Cardi B? Does the #metoo movement only protect women? Is this some sort of feminist agenda to emasculate African American men? Does it make a difference because now the roles have reversed? The victims are men and the perpetrator is now female?
Has the power of feminism gone too far? When did it ever become okay to meddle with the health and well-being of another human? In her defense, as she tears up, that no one was supporting her with the studio time she needed to make her records. So, she in fact had to do what she had to do. As we all know she makes no efforts to hide her troubled past as a stripper. But sometimes, celebrities must learn when to be quiet. This may have been a bad move for her. Let’s see if she’ll be able to recover from this travesty with the height of the #metoo movement as well as her career.
What are your thoughts? Were her actions justified or has she gone too far?
