New York Offers Free Tuition at Four-Year Universities.
A few New York families may have rejoiced in the fact of knowing they will not be paying a high tuition bill this fall semester. The state of New York has become the first state to offer free tuition for public four -year universities. It is a part of an Excelsior Scholarship Program that offers free tuition for low – income families making less than $100,000 a year. Which will increase to $110,00 in 2018 and $125,000 in 2019. The requirements for the students are that they must be residents and enrolled full-time and maintain their GPA to maintain the scholarship. It works the same as if filling out a FAFSA.
This is a step in the right direction as it lowers debt cost and need for loans. Although, it won’t cover housing and other things such as textbooks. It is certainly helping those who dream to go to college into a much realized reality.
